Chris’ Classroom Story: For the love of Pride and Positivity
My #ClassroomStory is all about the PRIDE that our children show in school. PRIDE in our school stands for Passion, Resilience, Intrepidity, Dependability and Empathy.
They’re the five values that our school is built on.
Now, in school I started a PRIDE journal about a month ago and the idea with that was that anybody in the building – teachers, parents and carers, children, could leave messages in the PRIDE journal, showing when someone else has shown those values and celebrating and recognising it. My favourite thing to do in the morning is to start mine and the class’ day off in a really positive way, by opening up the PRIDE journal just after the register and have a sneak peek at what’s in it.
Here are a few examples from our PRIDE journal, all of which are written by children:
“I’m really proud of my friend, because she was really resilient and asked for help when she was getting things wrong. She tried again, and, with a little bit of help she was successful and felt really proud of herself.”
“This child has let me play with them every day this year and they’re a really good friend. They show, I think, a lot of empathy.”
“So, pupils are picking up on those positive choices in school, and celebrating them.”
This message is about a young boy who really struggles with his resilience and someone has written:
“This boy has been amazing this past week and today he’s worked his socks off and has been bursting with ideas.”
Our PRIDE journal has really gone from strength to strength and is a really nice way of celebrating those successes around school.
