Sam’s #ClassroomStory: For the love of dance.
As PE lead, I am constantly on the lookout for ways to improve physical activity in school. For example, over the summer I set a summer challenge where every child in school got to take home a tennis ball to practice their hand-eye coordination skills.
Earlier this week the children came to school asking if I could to the ‘TikTok’ dance as they were all desperate to be able to do it.
I watched the dance lots of times online but I just couldn’t master it without the help of my fantastic colleagues. One night, after school, we got on with it and managed to learn the steps.
“In the next whole school assembly we demonstrated our skills to the awe of the children, they couldn’t believe their eyes!”
They were even more desperate to learn the dance and soon enough there were children practising the dance everywhere and anywhere! Children went home and taught their siblings, parents and even grandparents how to do the dance. We have twins here who ordinarily don’t get on but because of working together, this is what they can achieve.
For me, this is more than just a trend. I’ve loved watching the whole school displaying growth mindset by trying to learn the steps to the dance. They’ve displayed great team work skills and more importantly supported each other.
